With the following exercise you can determine which side of your brain left or right is dominant

Close your eyes for about 5-10 seconds, then have a look at the picture above.

If you see the dancer to rotate clokwise, it means that you use the right hemispheres of your brain more intensively. However the counterclockwise rotation means that you use the left hemispheres of your brain more intensively.

The most people have only one brain hemispheres in use and they are able to detect only one direction. However, some people are able to recognize both directions, especially those who have a strong imagination power. Only a very few people are able to consciously influence the direction and deliberately change functions of the two hemispheres.

You can try it out!
If you really concentrate, you can change the direction the rotation of the dancer.

Now it is an established fact that special trainings such as autogenic training can have affect to the brain and the brain can be consciously directed in different states, wich states can be determined by sensitive instruments.

After a little exercize try to reverse the direction of rotation of the dancer! If you have success, try to keep this for a short time, even so you think this is an unnatural direction. If this has been going, you have to try to rotate back and forth!

The ultimate goal is, that you make a number and also a direction of rotation what you ever want.

Several researchers have argued that people can be divided into two major groups
1) people who us predominantly the right hemisphere of the brain
2) people who us predominantly the left hemisphere of the brain

People who see the rotation of the dancer clockwise direction have the right hemisphere dominant. Some researchers demonstrated that the majority of men fall into this category. These people see the reality in pictures, are dreamy, forced guessing becouse they get only partial information from the left hemisphere. They are emotional, imaginative, curious and proactive in nature, whereas the right brain thinks in pictures.

People who see the rotation of the dancer counterclockwise direction have the left hemisphere dominant. Many people contend that a significant proportion of women belong to this group. The left hemisphere of the brain is responsible for speech, kicker, logical thinking and rational conclusion. Characterized by their concern, doubt, caution, excessive immersion in the details.

Interestingly, the researchers say unanimously that the children do not have distinct orientations, this means that they are able to use both hemispheres. The two parts of the brain complement each other and for this reason children have strong logic skills and also fantastic intuition skills.

The question why this change with age has not yet been answered.

How does this illusion work?

It is a two-dimensional image that is simply shifting back and forth. But our brains did not evolve to interpret two-dimensional representations of the world but the actual three-dimensional world. So our visual processing assumes we are looking at a 3-D image and try to interpret it as such and without adequate clues it may just arbitrarily decide a best fit spinning clockwise or counterclockwise.
By looking around the image, focusing on the shadow or some other part, you may force your visual system to reconstruct the image and it may choose the opposite direction, and suddenly the image will spin in the opposite direction. The illusion was created by web designer Nobuyuki Kayahara.

The right and left brain function can measure with a simple instrument. This instrument allows accurate measurement of the brain activity. The price is about EU 140.-
